A program has just recently been on TV, about Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise. As a child, I used to watch these two comedians. Morecambe And Wise did many great sketches together. The best was with Andre Previn, when Eric Morecambe tried to prove he could play the piano, by playing Grieg's piano concerto. This was ever so funny. Eric Morecambe compleatly made a fool out of Andre Previn. Eric Morecambe grabbed hold of Andre Previn by the lapels and said, I'm Playing All The Right Notes...But Not Necessarily In The Right Order. This has got to be one of the most finest sketches of all time.
There was another sketch involving Patrick Moore. Morecambe And Wise pretended to be on The Sky At Night. Eric came out with a fantastic joke. He said to Patrick Moore, Is There Such Thing As Life On Max Bygraves? This is the sort of comedy Eric and Ernie did best. That's why they always poked fun at Des O' Conner. On the christmas special 1980, Eric Morecambe stays seated, while David Frost and Ernie Wise stand up, to greet Des O' Conner. Des O' Conner hands over one of his albums to Eric Morecambe. Eric Morecambe preceeds to place the offensive record on Des O' Conner's chair. Des O' Conner returns to sit on the seat, and the record breaks.
I felt that when Eric Morecambe died in 1984, the world of comedy had lost such a great actor, and asset. I also felt that after Eric Morecambe died, that was the end of comedy. The world of TV would never be able to replace him. I think I've always been grief-stricken by such a great loss. I still watch Morecambe And Wise today. I still love all the sketches they once did. A lot of people have said comedy isn't the same anymore. I belive them to be absolutely right.
